Fana Ads Launches: Telegram Advertising & Marketing for Ethiopia
Telegram is one of the most-used apps in Ethiopia — news, communities, and businesses all live there. Until now, running an ad campaign across Telegram channels meant DM-ing individual channel owners, negotiating a price by hand, hoping the post actually went up on time, and trusting that the payment would go through fairly on both sides. Fana Ads exists to fix that.
Fana Ads is a Telegram-first advertising marketplace that connects advertisers directly with Telegram channel publishers, with escrow protection on every booking. You don't need to leave Telegram to use it — the entire marketplace runs inside a bot, with an optional web dashboard (mini app) for a fuller view of your campaigns, channels, and wallet.
The problem with advertising on Telegram today
If you've ever tried to place an ad on a Telegram channel the old way, you know the friction: you find a channel that looks like a fit, message the owner, wait for a reply, negotiate a price with no reference point for what's fair, send money up front with no guarantee the post will actually go up, and then hope the channel owner keeps the post live for as long as promised. There's no escrow, no verification, and no recourse if something goes wrong on either side. Multiply that across a handful of channels for a single campaign and it stops being worth the effort for most businesses — so they don't do it at all, even though the audience is exactly where they want to be.
Publishers have the mirror-image problem. A channel owner with a genuinely engaged audience has no easy way to be discovered by advertisers who don't already know them, no standard way to price their inventory, and no protection against an advertiser who disappears after the post goes up instead of paying. Fana Ads replaces all of that back-and-forth with a structured marketplace and a payment system neither side has to trust the other to honor.
Why we built this for Ethiopia specifically
Local payment rails matter. Fana Ads supports deposits and withdrawals through Telebirr and CBE (Commercial Bank of Ethiopia) — the payment methods advertisers and publishers already use, reviewed and approved through a manual verification queue so funds move safely. Pricing is also shown directly in ETB, and publisher payouts are calculated in ETB from day one. We didn't build a global platform and translate it — we built specifically around how Ethiopian advertisers and Telegram publishers already pay and get paid.
That local focus extends to the channels themselves: Fana Ads is organized around categories and languages that actually match the Ethiopian Telegram landscape — news, business, entertainment, education, and more — in Amharic, English, Oromo, Tigrinya, and beyond, so an advertiser can filter down to exactly the audience segment they care about instead of scrolling through a global directory that mostly isn't relevant.
How escrow protection actually works
The single most important thing about Fana Ads is escrow. The moment an advertiser books a placement on a channel, that placement's price is locked in an escrow account — not sent to the publisher, and not spendable by the advertiser. It sits there until one of two things happens: the ad is confirmed live and stays up for the required verification window, at which point the funds are released to the publisher automatically, or the post is deleted early (or the channel itself becomes inaccessible), at which point the advertiser is refunded automatically. Neither outcome requires a support ticket or a manual dispute — the system checks placement status continuously and resolves it on its own.
What launch day means for advertisers
- Browse a live marketplace of verified, active Telegram channels filtered by category, language, and subscriber count.
- Book a placement and have your budget held in escrow until the post is verified live — you don't pay for ads that never ran.
- Choose auto-posting (instant) or manual-approval channels, depending on how the publisher runs their channel.
- Create reusable ad templates so launching your next campaign takes minutes, not hours.
- See a channel's quality score and pricing side by side before you book, instead of negotiating blind.
What launch day means for publishers
- List your channel for free and set your own price per ad placement, with transparent fees shown in your payout.
- Get matched with real advertisers looking for your specific audience and category.
- Get paid automatically once your post is verified live for the required window — no chasing invoices.
- Withdraw earnings to Telebirr or CBE whenever you're ready.
- Earn an ongoing commission share when channels you refer to the platform go on to earn from campaigns.
What's already built, and what's next
At launch, the full booking lifecycle — campaign creation, channel discovery, escrow-protected booking, auto-posting or manual-approval publishing, automatic verification, and automatic payout — is live and working end to end, in both the bot and the mini app. We're actively building out more of the marketplace on top of that foundation: better channel discovery, deeper analytics for publishers, and more payment options — based directly on what advertisers and publishers using the bot tell us they need, not on a roadmap decided in a vacuum.
